Notes: Rajendra Prasad was the first President of the Republic of India. He held the office from 26 January 1950 to 12 May 1962. Prasad was the only president to serve two terms in office. Upon independence in 1947, Prasad was elected president of the Constituent Assembly of India, which prepared the Constitution of India and served as its provisional parliament.
