Notes: Popularly known as "Lion of Punjab", Ranjit Singh was the first Maharaja of the Sikh Empire. He reigned the kingdom from 1801 to 1839. Recently Anurag Thakur, the Lok Sabha MP from Himachal Pradesh visited Allard Square in the French coastal town Saint-Tropez, during his visit to Cannes Film Festival. He paid floral tributes to Maharaja Ranjit Singh, Jean-Francois Allard- a general in Singh’s army and Allard’s spouse Princess Bannu Pan Dei- who was from Himachal Pradesh.
