Q. Who led the Chero revolt (1770–71)?
Answer: Chitrajit Rai
Notes: Chitrajit Rai was the Chero ruler of Palamu who led the 1770-71 revolt with his Dewan Jaynath Singh. The revolt was against the British in support of Gopal Rai's claim to the Palamu throne. British Captain Jacob Camac defeated the rebels and declared Gopal Rai king on July 1, 1771. Bhushan Singh led a later Chero movement from 1800-1818, not the 1770-71 revolt.
