Ganga Narayan Singh was killed on February 7, 1833, by Thakur Chetan Singh of Kharsawan. The event occurred during the 1832-33 Bhumij Revolt in the Dhalbhum and Jungle Mahal region, now part of Jharkhand. After fleeing British troops, Ganga Narayan Singh attacked Kharsawan's fort but was killed by Chetan Singh's forces, marking the end of the revolt. Chetan Singh sent his severed head to British officer Captain Wilkinson as proof.
