Shankaraji Narayan Gandekar
Shankaraji Narayan Gandekar, a notable Maratha noble and administrator, was one of the staunch supporters of Tarabai during the intense succession crisis in the Maratha Empire after Chhatrapati Aurangzeb’s death. Despite shifting political tides favoring Shahu Maharaj, Shankaraji remained unwavering in his loyalty to Tarabai. In 1707, after Tarabai lost power, he chose to end his life near Nagnath as a mark of devotion and protest. His sacrifice is historically significant as most nobles at the time often changed sides, but Shankaraji's loyalty was exceptional. His son, Naro Shankar, was later recognized and served under Shahu Maharaj.
