Notes: Gonu Jha was considered as a quick-witted person in Mithila region of Bihar. He was a a ‘Pratyutpannamati ’ (ready-witted) character. He was a contemporary of King Hari Singh of Mithila in 13th century CE. He was born at Bharwara a village in Darbhanga district. There are several humorous Maithili language folktales about him and depicting him as a witty and wise man.
