Qutub-ud-din Aibak
Qutb-ud-din Aibak founded the Mamluk Dynasty (1206-1290), the first of five dynasties in India's Delhi Sultanate. He was from the Ilbari Turk clan and commissioned the Qutub Minar and Quwwat-ul-Islam Mosque. Aibak died in 1210 from a polo accident. His successor, Iltutmish, consolidated the empire and standardized currency with the silver tanka and copper jital.
