Buddho Bhagat is acknowledged as the leader of the Kols Uprising that took place in 1831-32 in Chotanagpur. It was a tribal revolt against the British colonial policy of expansionism. Bhagat, a freedom fighter, led the guerrilla combat against British rule, strategically employing the Kols rebellion and Larka rebellion as resistance modes. Also, he was responsible for rallying the tribals of Chhotanagpur against the unjust rule of the British as well as the Zamindars, a feat known as the Larka rebellion.
