Notes: Rani Gaidinliu was the freedom fighter from Nagaland and was known as ‘John of Arc’ of Nagaland. This Naga woman nationalist leader and successor to the political movement launched by the Naga leader jadonang (1905-31), tried to drive away the British from Manipur. She is best known for organizing a Guerilla war against the British. She was sentenced to life imprisonment and was released only after India’s Independence. Jawaharlal Nehru gave her the title of "Rani" ("Queen").
