Notes: Three villages: Kalikata, Gobindapur and Sutanuti (which gave birth to the present day's Calcutta), whereas Kalikata was a fishing village; and Sutanuti was a riverside weavers' village. The taxation rights to these villages were held by the Sabarna Roy Choudhury family of landowners, or zamindars. These rights were transferred to the East India Company in 1698.
