Papua New Guinea and Indonesia are the two countries that administer the "New Guinea Island". New Guinea is the world's second-largest island and, with an area of 785,753 km2, the largest island in the Southern Hemisphere. Located in Melanesia in the southwestern Pacific Ocean, it is separated by the 150-kilometre wide Torres Strait from the Australian continent.
