The South Koel River joins the Sankh River near Gangapur in Jharkhand. This confluence forms the Brahmani River. The South Koel originates near Lohardaga in the Chota Nagpur Plateau. It flows through Jharkhand and Odisha over approximately 285 km. South Koel is fed by tributaries including North Karo, South Karo, and Koina. No confluence with Barakar, Damodar, or Swarna Rekha rivers occurs at Gangapur.
