The westernmost and highest part of Jharkhand consists of over 300 dissected, flat-topped pats (plateaus) exceeding 900 meters elevation. These pats are located on the western Chota Nagpur Plateau. The highest step in this region ranges from 910 to 1,070 meters. The overall highest point in Jharkhand is Parasnath Peak at 1,365 meters, situated on the Hazaribag plateau. The term "Pat" refers to these elevated plateaus, distinguishing them from Tand (uplands) and other regional landforms.
