The Singhbhum Copper Belt extends approximately 160 km from Chakradharpur to Musbani. It lies within the Singhbhum Thrust/Shear zone and contains major copper deposits such as Mosaboni, Rakha, and Chapri-Sideshwar. The mines operate under Hindustan Copper Limited as the Indian Copper Complex. Copper mining dates back to ancient times from 2000 BC to the sixth century AD, with modern mining starting in 1927. The dominant copper mineral is chalcopyrite.
