Kalaburagi, also known as Gulbarga, is one of India's seven cement clusters. It was transferred from Hyderabad State to Karnataka in 1956 during state reorganization. Karnataka is a top cement-producing state with about 17,253 million tons of limestone deposits. The state produces over 11 million tons of cement annually, contributing 6.51% of India's total production. Karnataka has around 22 cement units with a combined capacity of 16 million metric tons per annum (MMTPA).
