Ashtachhap refers to eight prominent poet-disciples of Vallabhacharya, central to the Pushtimarg tradition, all composing devotional songs in Braj Bhasha about Lord Krishna. The group includes Surdas, Paramanddas, Nanddas, Krishnadas, Govindswami, Kumbhandas, Chitswami and Chaturbhujdas.Tulsidas, who is famous for the Ramcharitmanas was not in this group. Ashtachhap’s devotional compositions are hallmarks of Haveli Sangeet and the Vraj devotional movement of 16th-century India.
