Notes: Kabartal Wetland or Kanwar Jheel located at Begusarai area, Bihar was recently declared a Ramsar site. This is the 39th Ramsar site of India. Ramsar Convention was signed in 1971 at Ramsar, Iran. The first ever Ramsar site declared under this convention was Cobourgh Peninsula, Australia. And the first site in India under this convention was Chilka Lake, Odisha declared in 1981. At present, there are 42 Ramsar sites in India.
