Transition metal refers to any of the 40 elements in the d-block of the periodic table, which includes groups 3 to 12 on the periodic table. Some of the common transition metals are: Scandium, Titanium, Vanadium, Chromium, Manganese, Iron, Cobalt, Nickel, Copper, Zinc, etc. Radium, the sixth element in group 2 of the periodic table, is an alkaline earth metal.
