Qutub-ud-din Aibak
Qutub-ud-din Aibak, known as ‘Lakh Baksh,’ was a generous ruler who founded the Mamluk Dynasty in India and initiated Muslim rule in Northern India. He commissioned the Qutub Minar and Quwwat-ul-Islam Mosque. A former slave, he was a prominent figure under Muhammad Ghori and practiced relatively tolerant policies towards Hindus. He died in a polo accident in 1210.
