Defeat of Jaichand of Kannauj and expansion of Ghori’s control over Northern India
The Battle of Chandawar (1193-94), fought near Firozabad on the banks of the Yamuna, resulted in Muhammad Ghori defeating Jaichand, the last significant ruler of the Gahadavala dynasty. This victory enabled Ghori to expand his control over northern India, removing a major obstacle to Turko-Afghan dominance. It marked a significant setback for native dynasties, thereby paving the way for centuries of Muslim rule in the region.
