Nares Strait is the northernmost outflow gateway of the Arctic Ocean, with a direct connection to the remaining multi-year ice-covered central Arctic Ocean. Nares Strait itself flows into the historically highly productive North Water Polynya. Nares Strait connects the Lincoln Sea and the Arctic Ocean with the Baffin Bay. This strait houses Beaufort Gyre, Smith Sound, Kane Basin, Kennedy Channel, Hall Bain and Robeson Channel.
