The Punpun River originates in Chauraha Hills, Palamu district, Jharkhand. It is locally known as Keekat and Bamagadhi. The river flows northeast through Chatra district before entering Bihar. It has tributaries such as Butane, Madar, and Mohar. The Punpun joins the Ganges at Fatuha. The Ajay, Chanan, and Barakar rivers of Jharkhand do not share these alternate names.
