Damin-i-koh was designated in 1832 by the East India Company in present-day Jharkhand's Rajmahal Hills. This area covered parts of Sahebganj, Pakur, and Godda districts within Santhal Pargana. The British settled the Santhal tribes here to clear forests and conduct agriculture. The policy bypassed zamindars by granting land directly, leading to rapid population growth. The exploitation in this region led to the 1855 Santhal Rebellion and the eventual formation of Santhal Parganas district.
