West Singhbhum district was formed on January 16, 1990, after the division of the old Singhbhum district. It covers an area of 7,224 km², making it the largest district in Jharkhand by area. The district headquarters is Chaibasa. Hazaribagh district covers 3,555 km², Jamtara district covers 1,811 km², and Palamu district covers 4,393 km². West Singhbhum is known for its forests, hills, and tribal culture.
