Halmidi Inscription
The Halmidi Inscription, dated circa 450 CE, is the oldest known full-length Kannada inscription. It was found in Hassan district, Karnataka, during the reign of Kadamba King Kakusthavarma. The inscription is in Proto-Kannada script and records a land grant to a warrior named Vijaya Arasa. It contains Kannada syntax and grammar despite many Sanskrit loanwords.
