Notes: Indian Author Salman Rushdie was appointed a Companion of Honour by the United Kingdom for services to literature. The 74-year-old author of ‘Midnight’s Children’ was named on the occasion of the four days of celebrations to mark the Queen’s platinum jubilee. He had earlier received a knighthood in 2007. Companion of Honour is an exclusive club with membership limited to just 65 people at any given time, for services to literature.
