Indian Aluminum Company (Indal) was established in 1938 with its operations in Muri, Jharkhand. In 2000, it was acquired by Hindalco Industries, which is part of the Aditya Birla Group. Hindalco expanded Indal's alumina refinery and smelter projects in Jharkhand. The Birla Group's control of Indal was strengthened through subsequent acquisitions like Novelis in 2007 and AluChem in 2025. Tata, Ambani, and Adani groups do not own Indian Aluminum Company.
