The Pat plateau forms part of the western elevated flats of the Chota Nagpur Plateau. It extends to districts such as Gumla, Lohardaga, and Latehar in Jharkhand. Garhwa district lies at the southern edge of the Palamu division and does not have the Pat plateau extension. Instead, Garhwa features parts of the Ranchi plateau fringes. Therefore, the Pat plateau does not extend to Garhwa district.
