Koderma is located in Jharkhand and is historically known as the Mica Capital of India. It is part of the Great Mica Belt and was famous for Ruby Mica production. The mica zone covers about 12 sq. km within the Koderma Reserve Forest. The Forest Conservation Act of 1980 caused mine closures, reducing production. Despite this, Koderma holds its cultural and historical title as the Mica Capital. Andhra Pradesh currently leads mica production nationally.
