The Asian Koel (Eudynamys scolopaceus) is the official state bird of Jharkhand. It is locally known as Kokil or Koel. The Asian Koel is a brood-parasitic cuckoo species found in light woodlands. Male Koels are glossy black while females have brown spots. This bird was designated as the state bird by the Government of Jharkhand. It is listed as Least Concern by the IUCN.
