Most of the developing countries with a large population and a high growth rate have a high dependency ratio. The
population pyramids of such countries have a very broad base indicating a very large proportion of children. A large proportion of the population in the developing and less developed countries is dependent upon the primary sectors of economy (mainly agriculture) and the share of secondary and tertiary sectors in employment generation is relatively lower.
