Bihar Reorganization Act, 2000
The Bihar Reorganisation Act, 2000 was passed by the Lok Sabha on August 2, 2000, and by the Rajya Sabha on August 11, 2000. It received the President's assent on August 28, 2000. The act provided for the bifurcation of Bihar state into two states: Bihar and Jharkhand. Jharkhand officially became the 28th state of India on November 15, 2000. The date was chosen to honor the birth anniversary of tribal leader Birsa Munda.
