The 1928 Summer Olympics, called the IX Olympiad, took place in Amsterdam, Netherlands, from July 28 to August 12, 1928. Amsterdam was selected after bidding against Los Angeles. The Games included 2,883 athletes from 46 countries competing in 109 events across 14 sports. The 1928 Olympics introduced the Olympic flame and women's athletics. Germany returned to compete post-World War I.
