Buddhu Bhagat was born in Silagai village, Chanho block, Ranchi district in Jharkhand. He led the 1831-32 Kol and Larka rebellions against British rule. The rebellion spread to Ranchi, Hazaribagh, Palamu, Singhbhum, and Manbhum. British forces killed Buddhu Bhagat in 1832 during the suppression of the revolt. Silli is considered a variant spelling of Silagai, his native place in the region related to the uprising.
