Notes: Udayagiri Caves are 20 caves located near Vidisha in Madhya Pradesh. These caves date back to the early 5th century and have been carved out of rocks. Some of the oldest Hindu temples and paintings of India are preserved in these caves. Based on the inscriptions located in these caves, it is clear that these caves were built by the Gupta kings. These caves of Udayagiri are the most important archaeological sites in India and are protected monuments by the Archaeological Survey of India.
