Tikait Umrao Singh and Sheikh Bhikhari were arrested in January 1858 during the 1857 Revolt. Sheikh Bhikhari was the diwan of Tikait Umrao Singh of Khatanga Estate, located in present-day Jharkhand. They collaborated to impede British forces by blocking Chutupalu Ghati to prevent Ranchi’s occupation. Sheikh Bhikhari was executed on January 8, 1858, in Chutupalu valley, Ramgarh. British records document their arrests occurring in early 1858, consistent with January dates rather than later months.
