The Kharwar revolt, also known as the Safa Hor Movement, gained prominence in 1874 under the leadership of Bhagirath Manjhi. It was a tribal uprising primarily involving Santhal communities against British colonial authorities. Bhagirath Manjhi declared himself king of Bounsi village and opposed British rent policies. The revolt was eventually suppressed, and Bhagirath was imprisoned for two years. The movement continued between 1874 and 1881 as a significant tribal resistance.
