Kol Revolt of 1831
The Kol Revolt of 1831 in Chota Nagpur marked the first political expression of Jharkhand’s cultural identity. It involved unified tribal resistance against British land policies and zamindar exploitation. Earlier uprisings like the Tilka Manjhi Revolt (1784) and Chuar Revolt (1798) did not represent this collective tribal assertion. The Munda Revolt of 1797 is historically unverified. This revolt laid foundations for the later Jharkhand movement and eventual statehood demands in the 20th century.
