The Gajapati Empire was established in 1434 CE in eastern India. Its capital was Puri, located in present-day Odisha. Puri was known for the Jagannath Temple, an important religious and cultural site. The Gajapati rulers patronized temple architecture and extended their dominion over large parts of Odisha and neighboring areas during the 15th and early 16th centuries.
