Operational cover for Bombay by Royal Air Force
Kalyan Airstrip, called RAF Kalyan, served from 1942–1947 as the Royal Air Force base for protecting Bombay during World War II. It was the region's primary landing site before Juhu and Santa Cruz, spanning 1,800 acres, later abandoned post-war and transferred to the Ministry of Defence.
