The Adivasi Mahasabha was renamed Jharkhand Party in 1949 under Jaipal Singh Munda's leadership. It originated as a social organization advocating for tribal rights before becoming a political party demanding a separate Jharkhand state. It won 32 seats in the 1952 Bihar Assembly elections and merged with the Congress Party in 1963. Jharkhand Mukti Morcha and Bhartiya Samata Party were formed later and are unrelated to the original Jharkhand Party name.
