The Lok Sabha passed this act on 2 August 2000 and the Rajya Sabha on 11 August 2000. The act received Presidential assent on 28 August 2000. Prior to Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh was the 26th state and Uttarakhand the 27th state, formed in 2000 as well.
