Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA)
The Union Cabinet has approved the renaming of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) to Pujya Bapu Gramin Rozgar Yojana, signalling a major overhaul of the country’s flagship rural employment scheme. The government has proposed increasing the guaranteed employment under the scheme from 100 days to 125 days per rural household per year. It has also planned to revise the minimum daily wage under the scheme to ₹240, along with additional budgetary allocations to support the expanded scope.
