EDGE means Enhanced Data rates for GSM Evolution. EDGE was introduced in the late 1990s as a 2.75G mobile standard. It improved GSM network data transfer using 8PSK modulation. EDGE allows data speeds up to 384 kbps, which is higher than previous GSM/GPRS rates. Its implementation began in 2003 on GSM networks.
