Conqueror of the world
Prince Salim, Akbar's eldest son, became Emperor Jahangir, meaning "world grasper," to avoid confusion with the Ottoman emperor Salim. He was a patron of the arts, especially painting, and had a keen interest in natural history, maintaining a menagerie of exotic animals and plants. Jahangir introduced the "Chain of Justice," allowing subjects to summon him directly.
