Basavanna belonged to the 12th century and is the founder of the Lingayat movement in Karnataka. He used the ankita nama "Kudalasangamadeva" in his Vachanas, referring to the deity at the confluence of the Krishna and Malaprabha rivers in Bagalkot district, Karnataka. This deity symbolizes Lord Shiva in the Lingayat faith. Basavanna’s Vachanas promoted social equality and rejected caste-based discrimination.
