Confederacies in the Punjab area
The invasions of Nadir Shah and Ahmed Shah Abdali and the consequent dislocation of Punjab administration gave Sikhs an opportunity to rise once again. With the withdrawal of Abdali from Punjab, they began to fill the political vacuum. Between 1765 and 1800, they brought Punjab and Jammu under their control. The Sikhs were organised into 12 misls or confederacies which operated in different parts of the provinces. The misls fully cooperated with each other.
