The assessment of India's readiness for more reforms
The Simon Commission was a seven-member group formed in 1927 to study and recommend constitutional reforms in India, the most important British colony. The commission was led by its chairman, Sir John Simon, and thus acquired its name. It arrived in Bombay on February 3, 1928, to review India's constitutional progress since the Montague-Chelmsford Reform of 1919. The aim was not merely to assess the situation but also to determine the future course of action, assessing India's readiness for further reforms.
