The Rajmahal Hills are located at the north-eastern edge of the Chota Nagpur Plateau in Jharkhand. They form the boundary between the plateau and the Indo-Gangetic Plain. These hills consist mainly of basaltic lava and rise to an elevation of about 400-567 meters. The Ranchi Plateau slopes southeast towards Singhbhum, situating the Rajmahal Hills distinctly in the northeast part of the Chota Nagpur Plateau.
