Notes: The Pradhan Mantri JI-VAN (Jaiv Indhan–Vatavaran Anukool Fasal Awashesh Nivaran) Yojana, launched in 2019 by Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas and amended in 2024, aims to set up advanced biofuel projects using lignocellulosic biomass and renewable feedstocks. The scheme provides remunerative income to farmers for agricultural residues, creates rural and urban employment opportunities, and addresses environmental pollution caused by burning crop residues and municipal solid waste. The Government is encouraging farmers to diversify from water-intensive crops like rice and sugarcane to sustainable crops like maize for ethanol production.
